JASON GARRETT “JUNIOR” – HEAD GUIDE
Jason has called Tasmania’s Central Highlands home since age ten. Born in Papua New Guinea, he first learned to fly fish in the 1970s before moving to Derwent Bridge, where he spent childhood holidays fishing, swimming and climbing Mt Rufus. By fourteen, he was guiding clients at London Lakes on his father’s renowned fly fishing estate. After years travelling and working around Australia, Jason returned full‑time to the Highlands in 2019, establishing Miena Village and Miena Guiding Tasmania. As the third generation of his family here, he shares his deep local knowledge and love of the wilderness with every guest.

We are a dedicated guiding tour company focused on delivering exceptional, personalised experiences across Tasmania. While our core offering is expert guiding, we can also arrange accommodation on request and frequently create customised packages tailored to each guest’s needs — we make planning your adventure seamless.

Miena Guiding Tasmania Walking Tours
yingina/Great Lake is a place of ancient stories from deep time. This is the country of ‘teen toomele menennye’, the Big River people.
Through our actions and love of this land we respect the ancestors and elders and practise truth telling. We celebrate the future as we imagine what might be. We are caretakers of this place, custodians, We are a small chapter in a long dreaming.
