About the Fishing
Delve into the serene beauty of the Central Highlands on our exclusive trout fly fishing adventure.
Whether you’re casting a line on the expanse of the Great Lake, exploring iconic shallow lagoons or discovering tranquil tarns teeming with wild brown trout and local wildlife, this is a day designed for both relaxation and excitement.
We plan for the following experience:
– Calm, balmy days with beautiful sunsets
– Sipping wild brown trout to large mayfly hatches
– Friendly, local knowledgeable guides that whisper to the trout
– Eagles on the wing, platypus at play and wombats grazing with the wallaby
Be warned though, as our guides also know how to find fish in howling gales, snow and sleet, and rest assured there will be a warm fire and a cold beer to return.
Itinerary
We recommend you arrive in the Central Highlands the night before your guided fly fishing day.
We will arrange to pick you up at your accommodation at 9:00am and from there we have over one thousand lakes to choose from.
Unless requested, we will choose a fishing location based on
1. Where you are staying.
2. Where the fish are biting.
3. What sort of angling pressure there is; and
4. The weather conditions.
Enjoy the stunning vistas whilst savouring a light gourmet lunch prepared for you. Throughout the day snacks and refreshments will keep you energised as you experience some of the best fishing spots in the region. Your private fully guided journey by boat or from the shore, will last a lifetime in the pursuit of catching wild brown trout from this world class fishery.
The guiding day whether walking or boating generally finishes by about 5pm so we can have everyone back at their accommodation by 6pm….unless the fish are biting….
Our local guides are in no hurry to end the day, as we are local and do not have to be off the mountain by a certain time.
Grade
We cater for groups or individuals from ages eight to eighty-eight, fit and healthy to those that require more care and attention.
This is your experience and we tailor the effort based on your needs. We can create 15km hiking fishing walks or leisurely sight fishing from a boat, so discuss your needs so we can plan your Tasmanian fishing adventure.
We would class the experience as being moderately difficult unless there is a need to make it more extreme.
Fishing Tour Details
WHAT TO BRING
– Good wading boots and waders.
– For our highland rivers, 2 or 3 weight rods.
– For our highland lakes, 5 or 6 weight rods.
– Long and short sleeve shirt.
– Warm jacket (fleece or puffer), Warm sweater or jumper.
– A Tasmanian fishing license.
– Sunhat and sunglasses
WE WILL SUPPLY
– Local transfers. We recommend the day starts in the Highlands, but we can arrange transfers from Hobart or Launceston return for an additional cost.
– – You will need to add three hours to the experience.
– – Alternatively, consider the lowland experience.
– A boat if required.
– We provide all wading gear if required.
– We provide all fishing gear if required.
– Light Tasmanian gourmet lunch, snacks and refreshments including teas and coffees.
