Welcome to The Wilds of Tasmania Tour, an incredible journey of Tasmania, it’s history and it’s culture.
Tasmania is a land of beauty, and we have put together an exploratory itinerary that will delight your walking mind. There are mountain walks, waterfalls to see, ancient ice-capped terrain and glacial lakes to explore. We venture into well known Tasmanian National Parks, and we will see endemic species of flora and fauna and we also visit a working sheep farm that has been owned for generations.
We also explore the two largest cities of Tasmania, being Hobart and Launceston. This is a small group tour of no more than six people.
The tour includes:
Arrive Hobart, capital city of Tasmania on a Friday with transfers from Hobart airport to accommodation in Hobart city. A set dinner to meet and greet your tour party and discuss the week long tour over a relaxed meal at the hotel.
Day 1 – Climb right up or relax at Salamanca Market
Those wanting to do an amazing six hour walk from the heart of Hobart, join the Saturday walking party of kunanyi/Mt.Wellington. Those wanting a more relaxed start to the tour will head off to Salamanca market for the morning and will meet the walkers at the Pinnacle of kunanyi/Mt.Wellington after they have experienced some of the Hobart market lifestyle.
Everyone will arrive back at the hotel about 5pm with a free night for you to explore Hobart night life.
Day 2 – Off to the Mt Field National Park
Everyone up early for a 7:00 am breakfast, bags packed and loaded on the tour bus for an 8:00am departure.
Those up for a walk on the mountain will traverse the Tarn Shelf, an idyllic 8km walk through a breathtaking Tasmanian landscape. For those wanting something more relaxing, there is the morning at the Visitor Centre, followed by a walk to the waterfalls for a spot of lunch, before a ride to view one of the tarns in Mt.Field National Park.
At the end of the day, we plan to visit the Westerway Berry farm for a well earned ice-cream before travelling through to Curringa Farm for the evening.
Day 3 – A Day in the life of the Derwent Valley
A more relaxing wake up with breakfast being a sleep in affair in the privacy of your bungalow. After roundup at 9:30am its off on a sheep tour and viewing at Curringa Farm in Tasmania’s Derwent Valley. Pack your bags though because after that, we head off to a local whisky distillery for lunch at Lawrenny Estate.
The afternoon includes visiting the history of Tasmania’s hydro electricity pioneering as we venture north to the Central Plateau, arriving at the Great Lake Hotel on Monday evening, where we will stay for the next three nights.
Day 4 – Experience a boat ride on Lake St Clair and walk part of the Overland Track.
This is a must for everyone, so it’s up and ready for for the day tour departing at 9:00am to head across to Lake St.Clair National Park. Bring your water bottles as we will have lunch on the trail, returning to the hotel by 4pm for a relaxing night off.
Day 5 – Western Lakes day walk
We are again out the door by 9:00am to step onto the Central Plateau for a glimpse of what was once an ice cap. Take in the moonscape and enjoy the day visiting this very alpine Tasmanian landscape. Again, bring your water bottles as we will have lunch on the trail, returning to the hotel by 4pm – a group dinner is arranged for this evening, including a late evening drive to see some of the native wildlife.
Day 6 – The Meander Valley region
Today is a day trip towards Launceston where we travel via Quamby Bluff, Projection Bluff, Liffey Falls and into the townships of Deloraine and Westbury. For those wanting to climb a mountain, this is a great opportunity; and for those looking for something more leisurely then its off to the falls and the chance to explore one of Tasmania’s rural townships.
We meet up again at 3pm and travel through to Launceston for an early supper at one of the local vineyards before hitting the hotel.
Day 7 – Our final day in the Tamar Valley
If enough is enough, we let you explore Launceston, Tasmania’s second largest city including a visit to Cataract Gorge, whilst those that are willing to head off on a walk to Mount Maurice, it showcases all that Tasmania’s North East has to offer. We have a final celebration dinner in Launceston before saying good bye and letting you head to bed then on to other adventures.
Transfers to Launceston Airport are provided in the morning post the tour for those wanting them.
