Western Lakes Walk with a Twist

What we love about the Walk with a Twist.

This exclusive experience has something for everyone. It includes a walk in this amazing wilderness and it also allows those interested, to cast a line.

For some the walk is the important focus, whilst for others in the party, fishing is the plan. We ensure everyone has an enjoyable outing.

“Booked a 2 day trip with a mix of fly fishing and hiking. Was able to tailor the trip to what I was looking for. Jason guided me for an unforgettable couple of days and is a wealth of fishing knowledge!”

About the Walk

Step into a world of natural beauty and colonial heritage. Follow in the footsteps of our ancestors as you explore pristine tarns, blue lagoons and crystal clear streams on the Central Highlands Plateau, soaking in breathtaking landscapes.

The walk has a twist – during the day there will be an opportunity to learn the basics to the art of fly fishing and possibly even cast at a wild brown trout.

This is an exclusive experience for groups of 2 to 6.

Led by experienced wilderness guides whom also know the art of fly fishing.

Transfers by arrangement from your local accommodation to and from the trail head

Itinerary

Between 8:30am and 9:00am all local transfers from Miena that are pre-arranged occur. Once the exclusive party is assembled, packs are fitted and packed with essential items, and baggage holding is also collected for items not going on the trip. Gaiters are provided, water bottles filled, and a safety briefing is undertaken.

Transfers to the start of the tour are completed with the walk, hike, twist getting underway by about 10:00am.

It’s a walk right? Yes, it is a walk but there will be opportunities during the day to stop and learn the art of fly fishing as we walk past the many tarns, lagoons and creeks. Ah, the twist.

With a choice of over a thousand tarns, the walk could go in many different directions depending on what’s fishing well, what the weather is doing, and how much walking everyone is interested in.

Lunch is a great chance to stop and rest over a light Tasmanian gourmet salad, with an eye on the water to use some of your casting techniques on a lazy brown trout.

After a slow afternoon of fishing and walking, we head back to the vehicle and transfer back to the hotels by 5:00pm.

Grade

Wading gear is not required for the fishing, but your boots may get wet.

We cater for groups or individuals from ages eight to eighty-eight, fit and healthy to those that require more care and attention. This is your experience and we tailor the effort based on your needs. This hike is moderate with the intention of walking up to 8 kilometres during the day, mostly on rocky paths and pads.
