What we love about the Western Lakes Day walk.
Other than local wombats, eagles and wallabies, we are normally on our own. There is also the possibility of bumping into a platypus.
The Central Plateau is a unique environment which we hope you will explore with us.
Bring your camera as there are some amazing landscapes to capture.

About the Walk
Find yourself immersed in nature with a small group, guided walk through the pristine wilderness of the Walls of Jerusalem National Park, a World Heritage Area known for its diverse and untouched habitats, home to rare and endemic Tasmanian species. The wildflowers in season are an amazing array of colour.
The tour ambles through a unique glacial landscape filled with highland lakes, trout filled lagoons, pine lined tarns and crystal clear streams.
Itinerary
Depending on the party, the tour starts from Miena at 9:00am, includes pick ups on the way to the trail head including Thousand Lakes Lodge.
At 9:30 am after a safety briefing, the tour heads onto the Plateau and out to the Walls of Jerusalem National Park and the Powena Creek region for the day. Morning snacks and a light gourmet lunch is served on the trail. Learn about the endemic species to the area and take picture of the native flora and fauna. Hopefully there will be a chance to see wedge tail eagles, wallabies, platypus or even one of our rare sand dragons.
This round trip experience takes you past clear waters brimming with wild brown trout. Time permitting there will be opportunities to explore the Christies Creek area or even venture up onto Wild Dog Tier if plans are changed for the day.
Millions of years ago this area was an ice cap, so understanding the history of the area is discussed with your local knowledgeable guides. Weather can be inclement in this area so ensure that you bring clothing for all climates. The Central Plateau is over 1100 metres above sea level, and the area is the coldest record location in Tasmania during the winter months.
We expect to be back the trail head by 4:00pm and back at Miena by about 4:30pm.
