About the Walk
Immerse yourself in the pristine wilderness of Tasmania with a guided overnight walk to Powena Creek, nestled in the stunning Walls of Jerusalem National Park. This World Heritage listed area is a sanctuary for a diverse array of habitats, home to rare and endemic Tasmanian wildlife.
Itinerary
We recommend you arrive the night before and stay at
one of the hotels or lodges in the area. We can arrange
transfers if required.
Day 1 – Between 8:30am 9:00am all local transfers from Miena that are pre-arranged occur. Once the group is assembled, packs are fitted and packed with essential items, and baggage holding is also collected for items not going on the trip. Gaiters are provided, water bottles filled, and a safety briefing is undertaken.
Transfers to the trail head at Lake Ada are completed with the walk, hike, adventure getting underway by about 10:00am.
After lunch at Christies Creek, we arrive at Powena Creek by 4:00pm leaving plenty of time to relax into the late afternoon, contemplate a spot of fly fishing or have a swim in one of the tarns. Dinner is served at a time of your choosing, tents pop up, and there is a chance to do some star gazing before settling in for the evening.
Day 2 – Following a night in the Tasmanian wilderness, and after a light breakfast and a cup of hot coffee, we retrace our steps back to Lake Ada, hopefully having ticked off spotting platypus, wombats, wedge-tail eagles and possibly one of our rare sand dragons. We plan to return to Miena by about 4:30pm.
There are no bears, but hopefully you will have a devil of a time.
